Job summary

The City of Belvidere is seeking a Building Inspector/Plans Examiner to join its Community Development Department in Belvidere, Illinois. The role requires administering building codes, issuing permits, performing plan reviews, and conducting inspections to ensure safe development.

The successful candidate must have ICC Residential and Commercial Inspector certifications (or obtain within one year), at least five years of related experience, and strong communication and customer service skills

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of the ICC Codes as adopted by the City of Belvidere.
Excellent time-management and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Proven leadership and supervisory abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong customer service abilities
Possess, or obtain within one year of hire, ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspector certifications
At least 5 years of relevant experience with plan reviews and inspections.

Responsibilities

Perform building inspections and plan reviews for new construction and remodels.
Administer permits, code administration, and enforcement of building codes.
Collaborate with developers, contractors, architects, business owners, and residents to ensure safe development.
Serve as Building Official for the City of Belvidere in conjunction with the Director of Buildings.
