Job summary

SAFEbuilt seeks a skilled Plans Examiner for the South Chicago area to perform non-structural plan reviews for commercial, industrial and residential projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

The role involves collaboration with municipal clients, providing technical guidance to inspectors, and leading preconstruction conferences when needed. Candidates should hold ICC Certifications and have experience reviewing construction plans.

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of land development processes including zoning regulations and public infrastructure construction.
Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, the public, contractors, and agencies.
Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment.
Ability to prepare written plan review communications and use company software.

Responsibilities

Provide complete non-structural plan reviews for commercial, industrial and residential buildings for code compliance.
Review all plans to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Initiate preconstruction conferences with contractors and developers.
Provide technical direction to inspection personnel for field problems.
Assess and resolve client and public complaints.
Interact with municipal clients and staff.
May perform inspections and interpret codes in the field.
Attend meetings and training related to building codes.
