Job summary

The City of Rathdrum is seeking a Building Inspector / Plans Examiner to perform technical inspections and reviews of residential and commercial construction plans. The role ensures compliance with IBC/IRC and other applicable codes, reporting to the Building Official and applying independent judgment in enforcing standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in construction technology, architecture, engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in building construction, inspection, or plan review.
• ICC Certification: B1 Residential Building Inspector required; residential/mechanical certifications desired.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects to ensure compliance with building, structural, mechanical, energy, and accessibility requirements.
• Review building plans and specifications for adherence to applicable codes and ordinances.
• Communicate with contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners to provide guidance and enforce compliance.
• Issue notices of violation or work stoppage orders when necessary.
• Prepare accurate inspection and plan review reports and maintain records.
• Coordinate with other City departments on related inspection and enforcement matters.
• Attend professional development to stay current on code updates and inspection methods.
• Performs other related duties as required.
