Job summary

Form Energy is hiring a Battery Management System (BMS) Controls Engineer to develop and implement dynamic battery models and state-estimation algorithms for our iron-air stationary energy storage product. You will contribute to the design of state machines, reduced-order plant models, and core SOC/SOH/SOE estimators in close collaboration with the Controls & Systems Modeling team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in controls engineering or an advanced degree with relevant research experience
• Demonstrated experience with equivalent circuit or electrochemical battery models and state estimation algorithms (SOC, SOH, SOE)
• Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python for model development and data analysis
• Strong foundation in dynamical systems, control theory, model-based design, and electrochemical principles
• Strong intuition for battery physics, power electronics, and thermal dynamics
• Excellent technical communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Implement and validate models in MATLAB/Simulink following model-based design best practices
• Own the architecture, implementation, and code generation of battery control algorithms in Simulink, and collaborate with software engineers for embedded deployment
• Lead system identification experiment design and execution in partnership with battery chemistries teams
• Define performance requirements and hardware interface specifications for the BMS algorithms
• Support integration of battery controls algorithms and plant models into a system-level digital twin in Simulink, in collaboration with the system modeling team
• Travel to support controls bring-up and testing on prototype testbeds (limited)
