Job summary

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital invites applications for Lead Laboratory Technologist in Transfusion Medicine (Night shift) to provide technical leadership and oversight of Blood Bank operations. You will ensure accurate immunohematology testing, inventory management, and compliance with regulatory standards while guiding technologists and supporting exceptional patient care.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology, NY licensure, and 4 years of experience (or 2 years with a Master's).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science is required.
• New York State CLT licensure is required.
• SBB (ASCP) certification is preferred.
• Minimum 4 years as a Laboratory Technologist, or 2 years with a Master's degree, and strong knowledge of transfusion medicine policies.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical leadership and serves as a subject matter expert for Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine tests & SOPs, including ABO/Rh typing and antibody workups.
• Oversees daily Blood Bank operations to ensure accurate testing and blood component availability for patient care.
• Resolves complex serologic cases with technologists and guides interpretation of results.
• Manages blood component inventory and monitors expiration dates and storage conditions.
• Conducts quality control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting of Blood Bank instrumentation.
• Troubleshoots analyzers, LIS interfaces, and other systems affecting transfusion testing and reporting.
• Investigates discrepancies, instrument issues, QC failures, and specimen problems; implements corrective actions.
• Ensures adherence to CAP, AABB, CLIA, FDA, and regulatory requirements in Transfusion Medicine.
• Participates in inspections/audits and documents deficiencies or improvement opportunities.
• Trains and assesses competency of Blood Bank staff and provides ongoing technical guidance.
• Escalates critical issues to supervisors or medical leadership as needed.
• Participates in quality improvement and departmental projects to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency.
• Provides staff supervisory coverage as needed.
