Job summary

RRD is seeking a skilled Bindery Operator on 1st shift in Illinois. You will set up and run binding equipment, inspect safety, and coordinate multi-station workflows to deliver high-quality printed material on time.

You will lead a small crew, monitor output and quality, and handle routine maintenance and adjustments to keep production moving smoothly. A strong knowledge of bindery processes and safety is required.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of setup/adjustment of binding, folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials.
• Knowledge of paper weights, sizes, colors and how conditions affect machine adjustments.
• Ability to use standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
• Skill in making adjustments to powered machines using hand tools and specialized devices.
• Experience operating bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines.
• Ability to read/write work instructions and maintain dimensional accuracy.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Train and communicate with other employees.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines.
• Inspect equipment for safety issues.
• May operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) that contain numerous interrelated process stations and perform functions such as gluing, covering and delivering or stacking completed books.
• Make needed adjustments to coordinate the multiple work stations on a single machine.
• Direct crew through all aspects of production.
• Monitor quality, output and productivity.
