Job summary

AES Corporation in Hawaii is seeking a Senior Solutions Engineer - Systems Integration to lead the end-to-end development and integration of BESS products, ensuring safe and reliable operation across diverse project environments.

You will review designs, define interfaces, and collaborate with multiple OEMs to meet requirements, while mentoring engineers and supporting permitting and long-term performance improvements. Travel up to 25% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
• 5–7 years in BESS or complex electromechanical system development.
• Experience across multiple OEMs and integrators.
• Familiarity with UL 9540/9540A and electrical codes.
• Willingness to travel 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end systems engineering for BESS products from requirements definition through deployment and operation.
• Develop and maintain system-level requirements, ICDs, specifications, and compliance matrices.
• Integrate subsystems including energy storage, PCS, safety, controls, and communications.
• Review and approve BESS electrical and controls designs, including schematics and BOMs.
• Interpret and apply BESS safety codes and standards (UL, IEC, NFPA, IFC).
• Support prototype builds, certification testing, and production transition with validation plans.
• Mentor junior engineers and improve BESS integration practices.
• Serve as technical authority for BESS system architecture in utility-scale projects.
• Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and system-level issues on deployed assets.
• Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
• Support permitting and local jurisdiction discussions, managing risks.
• Provide technical guidance and training on BESS safety and emergency response.
