Job summary

Arc Boats seeks a Senior Battery Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design of our battery packs. This full-time, on-site role is based at our Los Angeles headquarters.

You will lead pack architecture, thermal and structural design, and collaborate with electrical engineering to ensure safe, manufacturable systems. You will build, test, and iterate prototypes, support sea trials, and drive hardware decisions from first principles to production, with ownership and fast-paced execution at

Qualifications

  • 6+ years mechanical engineering experience including 3+ years designing battery packs or modules.
  • Strong grasp of structural and thermal engineering with FEA, hand calcs, modeling on hardware.
  • Knowledge of high voltage battery systems and pack safety.
  • Experience collaborating with electrical engineers on busbars and BMS integration.
  • Proficient in NX and large assemblies; capable of detailed part design.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings with GD&T.
  • Manufacturing-aware design and cost-conscious decisions.
  • Production hardware experience and field troubleshooting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent time management; fast but sustainable pace.
  • Willingness to spend time on boats for field tests.
  • Ownership mindset and prioritization by business value.

Responsibilities

  • Lead battery pack mechanical design across Arc's product lines from concept to production.
  • Perform structural analysis (FEA, hand calcs) on enclosures and components against vibration/shock.
  • Size and design pack thermal management systems and validate against test data.
  • Partner with electrical engineering on cell selection, busbars, HV isolation, BMS integration.
  • Package packs into hull envelopes balancing energy density, mass, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Build and test prototypes; drive design iterations from results.
  • Support sea trials to validate and certify systems in the field.
  • Interface with suppliers and support production ramp.
