Job summary

City of Hope in Irvine, CA seeks a Lead Barista to provide outstanding customer service while crafting made-to-order beverages. You will take orders, prepare coffee and tea to specification, operate the register, and help maintain a clean, inviting cafe environment.

Responsibilities include opening/closing duties, inventory handling, and ensuring safety and quality standards. Prior Starbucks experience is preferred; certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent required.
• Starbucks Lead Barista Certification within 90 days of employment.
• Preferred: two years of Barista experience in Starbucks or food service.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, take orders, and prepare beverages to customer specifications.
• Open and/or close the retail food service area.
• Maintain a neat, sanitary bar/cart area and display.
• Clean coffee machines and prep areas.
• Handle sales and cash register operations following cash-handling procedures.
• Attend allergy/food-safety trainings and safety meetings.
• Assist with inventory and lifting of supplies.
• Adhere to City of Hope policies and compliance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

This role provides exceptional customer service while making hand-crafted, quality beverages. The Lead Barista will take orders and make coffee, tea and other drinks to customer specifications. The individual will also operate cash registers and credit card machines. The Lead Barista fields customer complaints or questions while working to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages. Responsible for opening and/or closing processes in their respective retail food service area. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but City of Hope may identify other responsibilities of the position.

As a successful candidate, you will:

• Greets customers, take orders, mixes and serves hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, café latte, tea, chai, fruit blend drinks, etc. while considering customer specifications. May sell food items. Works to maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items.

• Responsible for opening and/or closing procedures for their respective retail food service area.

• Arranges coffee bar/cart supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays and maintains bar/cart area in a neat and sanitary manner.

• Often cleans coffee machines, restaurant areas and preparation areas.

• Records all sales, collects money, operates a cash register and follows all cash-handling procedures as required, including the operation of a cash/credit card/electronic payment register.

• Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training. Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments. Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

• May receive inventory and move/lift foodstuffs and supplies.

• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures and reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.

• Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.

• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

• Starbucks Baristas will be required to obtain Starbucks Lead Barista Certification” withing 90 days of employment.

• Preferred Exp:Two years of Barista experience at Starbucks or in a food service setting.
