Job summary

Usmobile is seeking an exceptional Lead Backend Engineer in New York to own and grow a backend engineering pod. You will be hands-on, mentor a small team, and shape architecture and roadmaps as we scale to millions of devices.

You will write code alongside your team, influence technical direction, and partner with Talent to recruit top backend talent while upholding engineering standards across the organization.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot, including leadership or people management.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring backend engineers and driving architectural decisions.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to represent backend in front of executives and cross-functional partners.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrating message brokers.
• Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases and cloud messaging services (RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS).
• Ability to incorporate AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Opencode) into the software lifecycle.

• Collaborate with Product, QA, and DevOps to deliver reliable features.
