Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking an Associate Warden for Programs to oversee the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh. You will lead program services, including case management, chaplaincy, treatment, vocational and educational training, and transitional services, and establish operating procedures.

Reporting to the Correctional Deputy Prison Warden, you will supervise staff, manage resources, and ensure compliance with departmental manuals

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with two years supervisory or management experience in correctional programs.
• Experience interpreting assessment results and psychological factors related to offender behavior, classification, and program needs.
• Experience synthesizing data and applying knowledge of complex correctional operations to make accurate, defensible offender classification and program decisions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of correctional programs and offender rehabilitation strategies.
• Ability to apply departmental policies and procedures and work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight for facility programs including classification, chaplaincy, recreation, transitional services, work assignments, prison life initiatives, healthcare, mental health services, evidence-based interventions, and educational opportunities.
• Supervise direct and indirect staff; manage recruitment and performance processes; coordinate resources; ensure compliance with manuals and policies; evaluate program effectiveness.
• Maintain structured offender schedules; oversee daily and special activities; ensure proper implementation of programming and evidence-based practices; conduct audits and inspections.
• Direct offender classification processes ensuring timely, accurate decisions related to custody levels, transfers, restrictions, and special reviews.
• Prepare reports and respond to inquiries from offenders, families, attorneys, agencies, and the public; coordinate communication among staff and budget planning.
