Job summary

ZipStaff is seeking a Lead AS400 / WebSphere EDI Developer to own the AS400 core and EDI integrations at a major port and terminal operator in Newark, NJ. This is a hands-on lead role, not a coordinator position, requiring on-site presence.

You will reverse-engineer RPG/CL, maintain WebSphere MQ/Integration Bus/B2B for EDI with shipping lines, customs, rail and trucking, and design REST/SOAP APIs and database connectors from the AS400 to modern web tools.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on IBM i / AS400 development with RPG and CL.
• Experience with IBM WebSphere MQ, Integration Bus or B2B.
• EDI mapping and translation for maritime/logistics sets (210, 214, 301, 310, 322, 850/856).
• DB2 on AS400 expertise.
• Ability to troubleshoot EDI transmissions, spool and batch jobs.
• REST or SOAP API design and database connectors.
• On-site work in Newark, NJ; US work authorization.

Job Title: Lead AS400 / WebSphere EDI Developer

Location: Newark, NJ (On-site)

Employment Type: Contract (W2 through ZipStaff - No C2C or 1099)

ZipStaff is seeking a Lead Developer to own the AS400 core and WebSphere EDI integrations at a major port and terminal operator.

You will reverse-engineer RPG and CL, maintain WebSphere MQ / Integration Bus / B2B for EDI with shipping lines, customs, rail, and trucking, and build APIs that connect the AS400 to modern port tools. This is a hands-on lead seat, not a coordinator role.

What You'll Do

• Reverse-engineer homegrown RPG/CL programs and DB2 tables to map business rules, data structures, and workflows.
• Maintain, configure, and expand IBM WebSphere middleware (MQ, Integration Bus, B2B) for automated EDI.
• Develop and update maps for maritime and logistics EDI sets: 210, 214, 301, 310, 322, 850, and 856.
• Troubleshoot failed EDI transmissions and translations, spool and batch jobs, and apply emergency fixes.
• Design REST/SOAP APIs, WebSphere messaging channels, and database connectors from the AS400 to modern web and SaaS tools.
• Document undocumented business logic, schemas, architecture, and WebSphere routing paths.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on IBM i / AS400 development with RPG and CL.
• IBM WebSphere middleware: MQ, Integration Bus, or B2B.
• EDI mapping and translation, including maritime or logistics transaction sets (210, 214, 301, 310, 322, 850/856).
• DB2 on AS400.
• Troubleshooting failed EDI transmissions, spool, and batch jobs in production.
• REST or SOAP API design and database connectors.
• Able to work on-site in Newark, NJ.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

• Port, terminal, shipping, or logistics domain.
• System modernization from AS400 to web or SaaS.
• Documentation of undocumented legacy systems.
