Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Team Lead for the Android Core Product in Cambridge, MA with remote flexibility. You will own major features end-to-end, write and review code, and guide the team to ship reliable releases for a large user base.

You’ll work closely with Design and Engineering, mentor engineers, and help shape the Android UI/UX beyond the spec. The role blends leadership with hands-on development in a distributed setup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on
• Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work
• Understanding of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them
• Experience introducing a change that stuck, with cost-to-benefit understanding

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design through release
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features
• Review pull requests and give constructive feedback
• Unblock the team when blockers occur
• Drive changes so the team uses the best version
• Keep shared components well-documented and maintainable
• Lead planning and reviews across Product, Design, and Engineering
• Handle critical issues and provide nightly builds for QA
• Mentor junior engineers and grow the team
• Collaborate on AI-assisted workflows and Android UI/UX improvements
