Job summary

Speechify is seeking a hands-on Team Lead to own core Android product work and shape how the team collaborates. You will write code, review PRs, and own features from concept to release, while mentoring engineers and ensuring high quality.

This fully remote role requires strong Kotlin expertise, a track record of shipping long-running background tasks, and the ability to drive architectural decisions across the Android stack.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on.
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
• Strong knowledge of Kotlin and Android architecture best practices.
• Experience introducing new practices and driving adoption within a team.
• Comfort with guiding change and managing friction across teams.
• Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents and integration strategies.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design through release.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team when blockers arise and drive efficient collaboration.
• Ensure shared code and components remain consistent and well-documented.
• Lead planning and influence team processes and release cadences.
• Grow automation and shift verification left to speed up QA.
• Mentor engineers early in their careers and promote learning.
• Engage with Product, Design, and Engineering to align constraints early.
