Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology seeks a Principal Software Engineer to build platform products, tooling, automation, and AI capabilities for DoD customers. You will work on production-grade pipelines, cATO evidence, and secure deployment templates while supporting air-gapped environments.

The role emphasizes developer tooling and AI-assisted development on a senior team. You will contribute to AI-enabled development environments, platform self-service features, and comprehensive security

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of hands-on experience; in lieu of degree 12+ years possible
• 5+ years of Software Eng, DevOps/DevSecOps; 3+ years with Kubernetes
• Strong development skills in Python or Go; build tooling and apps not just config
• Daily use of AI-powered development tools (code assistants, LLM tooling)
• CI/CD pipeline development; GitLab CI preferred; Jenkins/GitHub Actions accepted
• Security scanning integration in automated pipelines (SAST/DAST/SCA) and container scanning
• Containerization (Docker/Helm/OCI) and IaC (Terraform/Ansible)
• Git-based workflows, GitOps patterns, Linux fundamentals
• Experience deploying to classified/air-gapped environments

Responsibilities

• Build agentic AI capabilities: tool orchestration, LLM apps, workflow automation
• Develop software automating continuous Authority to Operate (cATO) evidence collection and reporting
• Create secure-by-default CI/CD pipelines with security scanning and SBOM controls
• Extend platform with self-service onboarding automation and AI development tools
• Ship to and support production on hardened Kubernetes in DoD environments
