Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking an AI Engineer Sr Principal to design, build, and scale enterprise AI/ML solutions across cloud environments. This hands-on senior role combines engineering depth with solution architecture, delivery leadership, and executive-level communication to support NIH mission.

You will lead end-to-end AI/ML projects, establish MLOps and governance, mentor engineers, and collaborate with data scientists and security teams.

Qualifications

• Education: Master of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience: 10+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on experience with modern enterprise data platforms and cloud-native data architectures, including distributed data processing, data governance, ML lifecycle management, and batch/streaming pipelines.
• Production experience developing, deploying, and supporting AI/ML and generative AI solutions, including intelligent search, LLM apps, workflow automation, model serving, evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Experience with modern ML/DL frameworks, libraries, and tools; cloud environments with IAM, networking, security, and infrastructure.
• Experience with large, complex, regulated datasets in government/healthcare contexts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to collaborate with execs.
• Security clearance: Tier 3 Public Trust; US Person.

Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver end-to-end AI/ML and generative AI solutions across the full lifecycle.
• Design secure, governed AI/ML architectures for enterprise data management and cloud-native services.
• Develop production-ready AI solutions using LLMs, intelligent search, and workflow automation; monitor and optimize models.
• Integrate AI/ML with data platforms, governance, and operational processes across the enterprise.
• Mentor engineers and data scientists; communicate complex AI concepts via architecture diagrams and exec-ready materials.
