Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) seeks an AI/ML Technical Architect Lead to drive architecture, development, and deployment of AI/ML capabilities for CMS. You will lead cross‑functional teams, ensure secure, compliant AI solutions, and guide model lifecycle management and risk management.

The role demands extensive hands‑on AI/ML experience, cloud proficiency (AWS/GCP/Azure), and the ability to obtain Public Trust clearance. U.S. residency required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or related technical field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
• 10+ years of progressive experience in AI/ML, data science, software engineering, or related advanced analytics disciplines, including hands‑on experience with modern AI technologies.
• Hands‑on development position; must have experience developing AI/ML solutions.
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments, including MLOps practices.
• Proficiency in Python, R, and/or Java.
• Deep understanding of TensorFlow or PyTorch, preferably in AWS SageMaker.
• Experience integrating AI/ML into secure enterprise environments, with cybersecurity and data governance compliance.
• Experience developing AI products or prototypes using RAG and agentic AI technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure or Google Cloud acceptable) and AI services like Bedrock, Foundry, or Vertex AI.
• Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance and have lived in the United States for at least 3 of last 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for AI/ML strategy, architecture, and implementation across the CMS program.
• Design and deploy scalable AI/ML models in support of the CMS mission.
• Lead development of predictive analytics, automation frameworks, and intelligent decision‑support systems.
• Integrate AI solutions into secure enterprise and tactical environments.
• Ensure CMS cybersecurity and data governance standards are followed.
• Provide oversight of data engineering pipelines and model lifecycle management (MLOps).
• Develop and maintain model validation, explainability, and bias mitigation practices.
• Advise program leadership on emerging AI technologies and mission applications.
• Support transition of experimental AI capabilities into production systems.
• Integrate security, ethical, and data governance requirements into AI development workflows.
• Drive AI security risk management and prepare required ATO, configuration management, and incident response documentation.
• Coordinate with ISSOs, business owners, and stakeholders to implement secure AI solutions and participate in audits and governance reviews.
• Lead security governance activities to maintain continuous CMS cybersecurity and operational standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across cross‑functional teams.
