Job summary

Humana Inc. in the United States seeks a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of the NBA platform's agentic AI capabilities.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you are a major individual contributor building production AI systems each sprint while leading a small team of engineers and contractors. You will architect multi-step agentic pipelines, integrate LLMs, and ship AI-powered analyses into the Command and Control UI.

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering with 1–2 years in LLM integration or AI product engineering.
• Hands-on production agentic systems experience with multi-step pipelines and tool orchestration.
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation and vector search in production.
• Strong Python engineering skills for production AI systems.
• Experience integrating LLM APIs into real applications.
• Proven ability to lead a small team and manage contractors.
• Judgment on when AI is appropriate in regulated contexts.
• Clear communication with engineers and product owners.
• Fluency with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot)

Responsibilities

• Agentic AI delivery design and ownership across the NBA platform.
• Hands-on development writing production code.
• Architect multi-step agentic pipelines with data layer and activation channels.
• LLM integration including prompt engineering and context management.
• Develop user-facing AI experiences in the Command and Control UI.
• Build evaluation frameworks for AI output quality and safety.
• Manage AI engineering contractors within your pod.
• Model best practices for AI-assisted development across the org.
