Job summary

SiMa.ai in San Jose, CA is seeking a Principal Engineer, Apps Engineering to lead strategic customer engagements and drive end-to-end ownership of complex programs across robotics, autonomous systems, industrial automation, drones, computer vision, and edge AI.

The ideal candidate combines deep AI and embedded systems expertise with superb communication, project leadership, and execution skills required to guide customers from discovery to production deployment. The role is on-site in San Jose.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant industry experience in customer-facing technical roles.
• Independent leadership of complex customer engagements from requirements through deployment.
• Strong project planning, milestones, risk management, and issue resolution.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication for customers and executives.
• Strong software development in Python and C++.
• Deep experience with AI, computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded applications.
• Experience with embedded Linux, heterogeneous compute platforms, SoCs, or AI accelerators.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for strategic customers deploying applications on the SiMa Modalix platform.
• Own customer engagements end-to-end: requirements, architecture, planning, milestones, execution and deployment.
• Lead customer discussions, architecture reviews, issue resolution, and status reviews.
• Develop clear project plans, identify risks, manage dependencies, and drive teams toward execution.
• Architect and develop AI and edge applications for robotics, autonomous systems, and computer vision use cases.
• Optimize AI application performance: latency, throughput, power, memory, and system performance.
• Lead troubleshooting of hardware/software integration issues and drive cross-functional resolution.
• Provide timely communication of status, risks, decisions, and next steps to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Translate customer requirements and product gaps into actionable recommendations for engineering and product management.
• Mentor Applications Engineers and establish best practices for customer engagement and execution.
