Job summary

SiMa.ai, headquartered in San Jose, seeks a Principal Engineer, Apps Engineering to lead customer engagements across robotics, autonomous systems, and edge AI on the SiMa Modalix platform.

This is a highly collaborative, customer-facing leadership role requiring end-to-end ownership, architecture, proof-of-concept, and production deployment, with strong emphasis on performance, risk management, and cross-functional collaboration with Engineering and Product teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant industry experience in customer-facing technical roles.
• Ability to independently lead complex technical customer engagements from requirements to deployment.
• Strong project planning, milestone management, risk management, and schedule control.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong software development in Python and C++.
• Deep experience in AI, computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded applications.
• Hands-on with PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, ONNX Runtime, OpenCV.
• Experience with embedded Linux, heterogeneous compute platforms, SoCs, or AI accelerators.
• Understanding of AI inference, model deployment, performance optimization, edge AI workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex system-level hardware and software problems.

Responsibilities

• Lead as technical lead and primary interface for strategic customers deploying apps on the SiMa Modalix platform.
• Own engagements end-to-end: requirements, architecture, milestones, execution, deployment.
• Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, issue resolution, and status reviews.
• Develop clear project plans, identify risks, manage dependencies, drive teams.
• Architect and develop AI/edge apps for robotics, automation, computer vision.
• Optimize AI performance: latency, throughput, power, memory.
• Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues and drive cross-functional resolution.
• Communicate status, issues, risks, decisions, and next steps clearly.
• Translate customer needs into actionable recommendations for Engineering and Product.
• Mentor Applications Engineers and establish best practices.
