Job summary

Nordstrom, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the design and delivery of agentic AI solutions across commerce, personalization, inventory, and customer service. You will own end-to-end design, mentor engineers, and drive cross-functional collaboration with product, security, and infrastructure teams.

You will balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability, shaping agent UX, data flows, and system architecture while championing safe and reliable AI practices in production.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering building scalable distributed systems.
• Hands-on AI fluency with LLMs, prompts, and RAG in production environments.
• Experience designing and operating AI agents or agentic workflows in production.
• Ability to assemble and optimize context for agent decision quality under cost and latency constraints.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks and safety guardrails for LLM-based systems.
• Familiarity with memory patterns for agents and durable conversation state.

Responsibilities

• Define and design end-to-end agentic solutions with measurable outcomes.
• Build core agentic solutions across orchestration, tool-use pipelines, and enterprise integrations.
• Own solution design across multiple engineers with upstream/downstream integration.
• Apply context engineering to balance token usage, latency, and quality.
• Develop evaluations and guardrails for safe, reliable AI systems.
• Architect memory/state management for cross-session reasoning and workflows.
• Integrate LLM APIs, embeddings, and agentic frameworks into production services.
• Trade off design choices to balance delivery speed and long-term scalability.
• Lead design/code reviews and set quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring discussions.
