Job summary

AV in Huntsville seeks a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the design and integration of unmanned systems for defense and commercial applications. You will collaborate with Design and Controls teams to allocate requirements and develop architectures, driving simulation models and MBSE approaches across development stages.

Responsibilities include managing requirements traceability, proposing system tests, and mentoring engineers, while ensuring safety and performance through model-based methods

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in math/CS/engineering or equivalent.
• 12-15 years in a systems engineering role, aerospace preferred.
• Proficiency with C/C++ and Matlab.
• Experience with requirements traceability through the system development cycle.
• Experience in creating system test plans and reports.
• Experience writing Systems Safety protocols and ensuring field safety.
• Strong Matlab skills and office productivity.
• Familiarity with electronics and image collection/analysis.
• Ability to create architectures using model-based engineering tools.

Responsibilities

• Oversee requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle.
• Provide weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn down.
• Allocate requirements to subsystem & engineering coordination.
• Evaluate system performance thresholds and provide direction.
• Develop instrumented flight test vectors and data acquisition.
• Provide input for model development and simulation analysis.
• Develop systems test plans, procedures and reports.
• Review and interpret customer specifications effectively.
• Identify, analyze and resolve system design weaknesses and influence future products.
• Work on significant issues requiring evaluation of intangibles.
• Mentor others and provide guidance on discipline and company values.
• Other duties as assigned.
