Job summary

KeyBank is seeking a Lead Accountant within the Corporate Controllership to lead and execute complex accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis, while supporting close cycles and internal controls.

The role partners with Financial Operations, Risk, Audit, and business stakeholders to improve accounting quality, strengthen controls, and drive process improvements within a dynamic, hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience required.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting/controllership experience.
• Experience with complex accounting processes, month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and internal controls.
• Banking/financial services experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned accounting processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial analysis.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities with timely deliverables and robust controls.
• Investigate variances, identify root causes, and recommend accounting or process actions.
• Provide guidance on accounting issues and support SOX compliance and internal controls.
