Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Lead Accountant, Capital Markets, to own accounting for structured products, derivatives, and loan sale activities. You will partner with Capital Markets and Analytics across the transaction lifecycle, ensuring accurate records, proper valuation inputs, and robust month-end close processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 6+ years of accounting experience in financial services, lending, fintech, or public accounting.
• Experience accounting for structured products and derivatives, including valuations and reporting.
• Experience with loan sale and funding activities, including settlements and financing arrangements.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and month-end close ownership.
• Ability to lead cross-functional issue resolution with Technical Accounting.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end accounting for structured products and derivatives, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Support loan sale and funding accounting and related financing costs.
• Collaborate with Capital Markets and Analytics to understand activity and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate with internal teams on valuation inputs/outputs and balance reconciliation.
• Provide documentation to Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting for disclosures and audits.
• Help establish workflows for new transactions and improve controls.
• Enhance documentation and automation to handle growth in volume and complexity.
