Job summary

CHATFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS is seeking a Head Coach to lead a total sports program and serve as a role model for student athletes. The role includes supervising coaching staff, enforcing athletic policies, and coordinating with the athletic director and principals.

You will mentor athletes, oversee safety and sportsmanship, and pursue ongoing professional development through clinics and observations. This position emphasizes community representation and program excellence.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (Major sports).
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
• And, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies and ensures implementation by staff.
• Understands regulations and interprets them for staff.
• Directs line of command and ensures attendance at meetings.
• Establishes philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff.
• Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth via clinics.
• Delegates duties, supervises implementation and evaluates staff.
• Maintains discipline and morale; handles grievances.
• Performs other duties as assigned by athletic director/principal.
• Schedules transportation and tournament requirements; coordinates facilities and times.
• Prepares required documents for physicals, parental consent and eligibility.
• Maintains equipment security and inventory; ensures proper use.
• Advocates policy changes to athletic director.
• Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians.
• Determines discipline and handles due process when needed; contacts parents when needed.
• Assists athletes in college or advanced educational selection.
• Organizes preseason meetings with parents, coaches and players.
• Promotes the sport within and outside the school; maintains relations with media and booster clubs.
