Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington is seeking a Groundskeeper I to provide routine, semi-skilled care for lawns, plants and grounds. Responsibilities include mowing, planting, pruning, irrigation, and general maintenance of outdoor areas on campus in Arlington.

A valid Texas driver’s license and the ability to operate small equipment are essential. Line duties include greenhouse/indoor plant maintenance support, with opportunities to work with a range of groundskeeping tasks and equipment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED as minimum education.
• Texas Class C Driver's License or equivalent and a clean driving history.
• Ability to read and understand verbal instructions.
• Experience with and/or ability to learn operation of small equipment.

Responsibilities

• Cuts grass using hand mover or power mower.
• Maintains lawns by planting, cultivating and watering grass.
• Cultivates, prune, trim, transplant, fertilize and water shrubs, hedges and trees.
• Prepares ground for planting and maintains flower beds; removes leaves and rubbish; watches for pests and diseases.
• Keeps grounds clean and reports broken hydrants or faulty sprinkler equipment.
• Cleans and cares for tools, equipment, and supplies used in groundskeeping.
• Works in greenhouse and nursery; assists in indoor plant maintenance.
• Drives a University vehicle as needed.
• Performs other departmental duties as assigned.
