Job summary

Stampone O'Brien Dilsheimer Holloway is seeking a Controller to oversee all financial operations for a leading personal injury law firm. You will manage trust accounts, case costs, budgeting, and financial reporting to partners, ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.

This role requires 10–15 years in accounting with at least 5 in a law firm, CPA preferred, and expertise in IOLTA, settlement disbursements, and regulatory filings. Remote work options may be limited.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years progressive accounting/finance experience
• At least 5 years in a law firm environment; personal injury experience preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA preferred
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools; experience with legal practice management/accounting software

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations (AP/AR, payroll, GL)
• Trust accounting (IOLTA) management and reconciliations
• Case cost accounting oversight
• Settlement disbursement coordination and verification of liens, medical bills, and fees
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for partners
• Develop and manage the annual operating budget; monitor variances
• Cash flow forecasting for irregular contingency revenue timing
• Tax, audit & regulatory compliance coordination with CPAs
• Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Profitability analysis by practice area and matter
• Manage banking relationships and financing arrangements
• Assist with partner compensation calculations
• Drive process improvements and system upgrades
