Job description

This job involves tending laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients. Responsibilities include loading articles in washers, adding detergents, transferring wet articles through wringer and dryer cycles, sorting dried items, and folding and storing them appropriately.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Folds and sorts laundry such as blankets, sheets, towels, and personal clothing items.
2. Hangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers.
3. Delivers patient/resident laundry to designated areas.
4. Ensures that patients/residents' clothes are in good condition, ready to wear, and properly stored.
5. Understands the functions of various soaps and bleaches.
6. Follows safety precautions as per MSDS for all chemicals used.
7. Washes and dries clothes and linens.
8. Keeps laundry equipment clean and follows cleaning schedules.
9. Maintains a clean and organized laundry area, including sweeping and mopping.
10. Reports any repairs needed to the maintenance department.
11. Operates large filters according to schedule.
12. Handles soiled laundry items properly.
13. Disinfects linen carts as per policy and procedure.
14. Empties washers and dryers as needed.
15. Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves safely.
16. Knows the proper process for stain removal.
