Blue Origin in California is seeking a civil engineer to own the early design of launch site infrastructure, including roads, drainage, utilities, and support facilities. You will walk sites, evaluate constraints, and work with A/E partners to shape the scope before design development.

The role emphasizes field work, regulatory compliance (NEPA), and cross-disciplinary coordination, with travel to sites; U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of professional civil engineering design, planning, or site development (grading, drainage, utilities, roadways).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Willingness to travel to candidate and active sites: frequent day trips and the occasional longer stint.
• Strong communication: written, verbal, and the kind where you have to make the case for a site decision to a room that doesn't start out agreeing.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder).
• Ability to obtain and maintain badging at government installations (Vandenberg SFB).
• Ability to perform hands-on field work in heat, cold, rain, tight quarters, or at heights.

Responsabilités

• Lead civil planning and conceptual site design for launch site operations: roads, utilities, drainage, port access, and related facilities.
• Support site evaluation and due diligence; walk the ground and evaluate constraints.
• Drive early coordination with A/E partners; shape technical scope and resolve cross-discipline conflicts.
• Support environmental planning and regulatory compliance: NEPA assessments and agency coordination.
• Produce sketch-level civil design in AutoCAD Civil 3D for fast feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with adjacent disciplines to maintain a coherent design.
• Help develop statements of work and technical scope for civil design activities.
• Use BIM workflows to keep site design coordinated across disciplines.
• Identify project risks early and drive them to closure.
• Be in the field for site walks, agency meetings, and early construction observation.
