Job summary

Bo/Gar Enterprises in Wyoming, IL is seeking a CNC laser operator to set up, load, and run laser cutting jobs in a temperature controlled shop.

You will read blueprints, follow work orders, verify materials and programs, monitor cuts, and ensure parts meet exact specifications while maintaining safety and quality standards.

This position is located in Wyoming, Illinois. We work in a temperature-controlled environment, provide excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, Paid Time Off, and a 100% company-funded ESOP retirement plan.

The Laser Operator sets up and runs CNC laser equipment to cut metal parts. This position follows work orders, blueprints, and machine programs to make sure parts are cut correctly, safely, and on time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC laser cutting equipment.
• Read and follow blueprints, work orders, travelers, and job instructions.
• Make sure the correct material, thickness, and machine program are being used for each job.
• Load sheets or plates onto the laser and position the material correctly.
• Select and run the correct program for the job.
• Monitor the machine while it is cutting and watch for alarms, poor cuts, or other problems.
• Make basic changes to machine settings when needed to maintain cut quality.
• Remove, sort, count, and identify finished parts.
• Check the first completed part before continuing the production run.
• Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other measuring tools.
• Continue checking parts during the job to make sure they meet the required measurements and quality standards.
• Watch for rough edges, incomplete cuts, excessive slag, damaged material, or other quality problems.
• Stop and ask for help when instructions are unclear or parts do not meet requirements.
• Complete production paperwork and report labor, completed parts, and scrap correctly.
• Meet the company's production and quality expectations.
• Remove scrap and clean the cutting bed and surrounding work area.
• Check and replace nozzles, lenses, and other consumable parts when trained to do so.
• Complete basic machine checks and routine maintenance as needed.
• Use forklifts, cranes, hoists, vacuum lifts, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
• Follow all company safety rules and wear the required personal protective equipment.
• Help in other production areas when needed.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Previous CNC laser, fabrication, or machine operating experience is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, work orders, and job instructions.
• Ability to use measuring tools correctly.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and measurements.
• Basic mechanical and computer skills and the ability to learn machine controls and programs.
• Ability to notice cut-quality problems and make basic machine adjustments.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with supervisors, Quality, and other employees.
• Dependable, safety-minded, and able to pay close attention to details.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Previous CNC laser, fabrication, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Related training or work experience may also be considered.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
• Ability to regularly bend, reach, push, pull, and handle metal parts and material.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to safely handle metal parts that may have sharp edges.
• Ability to see measurements, inspect cut quality, and safely operate equipment.
• This position works in a manufacturing environment around laser equipment, moving machinery, noise, sparks, metal dust, sharp edges, and changing temperatures. Required personal protective equipment must be worn in designated areas.
