Job summary

Bo/Gar Enterprises is seeking a CNC Set-Up Operator to set up and run CNC machines that produce metal parts in a temperature-controlled facility in Wyoming, Illinois. You will install tooling, set offsets, verify first parts, and adjust to ensure tolerance.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, loading correct programs, and preventing production issues while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Previous CNC setup or CNC machine operating experience preferred.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, orders, setup sheets, and instructions.
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and measuring tools correctly.
• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, tolerances, and measurements.

This position is located in Wyoming, Illinois. We work in a temperature-controlled environment, provide excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, Paid Time Off, and a 100% company-funded ESOP retirement plan.

The CNC Set-Up Operator sets up and runs CNC machines to produce metal parts. This position installs tooling and fixtures, sets offsets, checks the first completed part, and makes adjustments so the machine can safely produce parts that meet the job requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, or other assigned CNC equipment.
• Read and follow blueprints, work orders, travelers, setup sheets, and job instructions.
• Make sure the correct material, program, tooling, and fixtures are being used for each job.
• Install and change cutting tools, tool holders, jaws, fixtures, and other setup equipment.
• Set tool offsets, work offsets, and other machine settings needed for the job.
• Load and run the correct machine program and make basic program changes when trained and authorized.
• Safely prove out new or changed setups before beginning the full production run.
• Produce and inspect the first completed part before continuing the job.
• Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
• Make offset, tooling, speed, feed, or other approved adjustments to keep parts within tolerance.
• Continue checking parts during the job to make sure quality requirements are being met.
• Watch tool wear and replace or adjust tools before part quality is affected.
• Troubleshoot setup, tooling, machine, or part-quality problems and ask for help when needed.
• Stop and ask for help when instructions are unclear, the setup does not match the job, or parts do not meet requirements.
• Complete production paperwork and report labor, completed parts, downtime, and scrap correctly.
• Meet the company's production and quality expectations.
• Help machine operators understand the setup, part checks, tool changes, and job requirements.
• Keep the machine, tooling, and surrounding work area clean and organized.
• Complete basic machine checks and routine maintenance as needed.
• Use forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
• Follow all company safety rules and wear the required personal protective equipment.
• Help in other production areas when needed.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Previous CNC setup or CNC machine operating experience is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, work orders, setup sheets, and job instructions.
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools correctly.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, tolerances, and measurements.
• Working knowledge of cutting tools, fixtures, offsets, speeds, and feeds.
• Ability to make basic CNC program changes when trained and authorized.
• Ability to troubleshoot setup, tooling, and part-quality problems.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with supervisors, Quality, and other employees.
• Dependable, safety-minded, and able to pay close attention to details.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Previous CNC setup, machining, or related manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Related training or work experience may also be considered.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
• Ability to regularly bend, reach, push, pull, and handle metal parts, tooling, and fixtures.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to safely handle metal parts that may have sharp edges.
• Ability to see measurements, inspect parts, and safely operate equipment.
