Job Description Summary

Marymount Management Company invites applications for Landscaping Grounds Keeper. The position assists with landscaping and maintaining University grounds and property using hand or power tools or equipment. Will typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, mulching, and snow and ice removal.

Essential Functions: The following statements regarding this non-exempt level position consist of duties and responsibilities describing the general nature and level of work being performed by the employee filling this position. 1. Maintain the agency grounds in impeccable appearance.
2. Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, or similar tools used for landscaping/grounds maintenance.
3. Use power tools that are either electric, battery operated, or gas operated to include riding mowers and weed trimmers to maintain grounds. Use snow blowers and sweepers to clear snow and ice.
4. Safely operate all hand and power equipment. Report safety issues immediately.
5. Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
6. Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
7. Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds. Plant flowers and other plants during planting seasons.
8. Use irrigation methods to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste. Adjust or use hoses/sprinklers when automatic systems are not functional.
9. Keep tools and equipment in good repair. Report broken equipment/tools to the supervisor and do not use tools that are malfunctioning or are unsafe to operate.
10. Communicate thoroughly and professionally with coworkers.
11. Work variable hours including weekends depending on weather and other factors.
12. Other duties, responsibilities, and/or activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Primarily performed outdoors. Temperatures may range from mild to hot during spring and summer months, and cold during fall and winter months. Exposure to periods of wind, rain, hail, snow, ice, and extreme heat and cold are to be expected. Requires above average amount of physical/strenuous activity including frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, pulling, and pushing equipment and/or materials. Requires frequent moving or lifting of equipment ranging from 25 – 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high depending on equipment used.

Minimum Requirements:

1. High School diploma or GED; or 1-year prior grounds keeping experience required.
2. Minimum 18 years of age at time of hire required.
3. Clean background checks required.
4. Prior experience using landscaping tools and equipment required.
5. Ability to drive a pick-up truck or van. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
