More specifically, the Groundskeeper I is responsible for performing all tasks related to maintaining the campus grounds, roads and parking lots. This includes but is not limited to trash collection from the campus grounds/parking lots, seasonal landscaping and snow removal. In addition, the position is required to assist Event Services with the set up/breakdown of room arrangements, assembly of furniture/staging and relocation of equipment. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. The incumbent is required to assist in meeting the operational needs of the College during emergencies and college closures, as well as, ensure continuity of strategic services.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
In the best interest of the College, only individuals who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states will be eligible for employment at the college: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
What you will do in this role
Maintain the campus in a neat and orderly manner by collecting trash on the grounds and in parking lots, emptying trash containers; removing leaves and debris from all steps and sidewalks.
Mow grassy areas. Trim and edge as needed and remove grass clippings from streets and sidewalks.
Establish and maintain flowerbeds, shrubbery and trees; including soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, thinning, mulching, feeding, watering, pruning, raking leaves and weeding as needed. Tree planting and removal as needed.
Maintenance of snow removal equipment, including attaching plow blades, salt spreaders, hoppers, etc. on appropriate Grounds vehicles. Operate snow removal equipment to keep campus roadways, walkways, common areas and steps clear of ice and snow. Clean and repair snow removal equipment and vehicles as needed.
Assist in the set up and break down of room arrangements for all college-sponsored events and other special events as requested, including flooring, staging, furniture, seating, decorations, etc.
Assemble/relocate furniture and equipment as required for both main campus and satellite facilities.
Unload freight in support of various college departments, including the Print Shop, Bookstore and Central Services.
Maintain all grounds equipment by performing routine maintenance and minor repairs to ensure that all equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
Operate forklifts, front-end loaders, tractors, bucket truck and other grounds equipment as necessary to perform assigned duties.
Maintain all fire hydrants, manholes, storm drains and storm-water management ponds; ensure safe and efficient operation in accordance with all applicable governmental codes.
Maintain inventory of appropriate campus signs. Install, repair and/or remove signage as requested.
Install, operate and maintain campus underground sprinkler system. Ensure that the system is drained and winterized.
Assist in transporting hazardous waste from departmental storage areas to central storage. Assist in the monthly disposal of biohazard waste by accompanying the vendor and ensuring adherence with college policies and procedures.
Follow established safety policies and procedures, including the use of all personal protective equipment necessary to perform duties safely.
Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director and Director.
Required Qualifications:
What you will bring to this position
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one year of commercial experience or demonstrated basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of commercial groundskeeping equipment.
Ability to work safely and reliably with minimum supervision.
Demonstrated ability to work under the following conditions and meet the following physical requirements:
Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift.
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and slippery conditions.
Ability to work on uneven surfaces.
Ability to utilize lifts, ladders and/or scaffolding to work at elevated heights.
Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as determined by college policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
