Job summary

Westinghouse Electric is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to maintain designated outdoor areas on site at the Catawba nuclear facility. You will operate hand tools, mowers, weed eaters, and other equipment, perform pesticide and fertilizer applications, and support safety and security procedures.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid state driver’s license, and the ability to pass drug and background checks.

Job description

Maintain designated grounds and outdoor areas on site using hand tools, trimmers, edgers, weed‑eaters, electric tools, gas powered tools, and equipment. Mow areas using zero‑turn mowers and riding lawn mowers, operate leaf blowers, apply pesticides & fertilizers, re‑seed, de‑ice roads, walkways, and entrances to buildings, and clear damaged trees. Work the Catawba nuclear site and report to the site coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

• Capable of lifting 50 lbs. (heavy lifting required from time to time.)
• Must have a valid State‑issued Driver's License and meet minimum education requirements (High School Diploma or equivalent).
• Basic computer skills.
• Training requirements for unescorted access to the nuclear facility to include Radiation Worker Training (RWT).
• Proactively support Westinghouse and Duke Energy programs, policies, procedures, strategic plans, and specific goals.
• Have good oral and written communication skills.
• Understand and follow oral and written communications, technical requirements, procedures, and directives associated with working at a nuclear power plant.
• Commitment to personal safety and industrial safety.
• Be assertive and self‑motivated, with the ability to work independently or with minimum oversight.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Will pass a drug test.
• Will pass a security background check.

Work Schedule

40‑hour work week – Monday‑Thursday operating 10‑hour days during online periods. Support on‑call as needed and increased work hours, including overtime during outage periods.
