Job summary

GFL Industries seeks a hands-on Landfill Operations Manager to supervise day-to-day site operations, drive a strong safety culture, and manage site resources efficiently. The role balances field execution with administrative duties, including regulatory management and financial oversight.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in waste/landfill operations, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and MOLO certification or willingness to obtain.

Qualifications

• 3+ years operational experience in waste management or landfill settings.
• Bachelor's degree in Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of industry experience and education.
• Proven ability to operate heavy equipment safely (dump truck, bulldozer, compactor, track hoe, loader, backhoe).
• SWANA MOLO certification (or ability to acquire upon hire).
• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and team-building capabilities.
• Working knowledge of non-hazardous solid waste regulations and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead field and operations on-site (70-80%).
• Direct daily landfill operations to improve compaction, soil usage, airspace efficiency, and equipment utilization.
• Operate heavy equipment on the hill when needed to train team members.
• Lead safety meetings, enforce PPE, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate site personnel; implement progressive discipline.
• Establish productivity benchmarks and track site KPIs; conduct annual evaluations.
• Investigate accidents and ensure corrective action reporting.
