We are seeking a Land Surveyor II to join our growing Construction and Survey team in Schaumburg and Vernon Hills, IL.How you will make an impact:The Land Surveyor II will report to the Division Director and perform a variety of technical engineering work involving both field and office support of land surveying project. This position also includes operating various types of equipment, performing related mathematical computations, and provide support to professional engineering staff. This role is a non-exempt, hourly, position. We offer a hybrid work environment.Responsibilities:Read, interpret, and assist in the development of technical documents and calculations associated with the position.Ability to competently read civil, architectural, and structural drawings, including complex details, and successfully interpret for construction layout.Assist and apply discipline design criteria when obtaining field data and record information to be used in production of engineering drawings and reports.Operate survey instruments, conduct basic field adjustments, maintain neat and orderly field notes, utilize hand-held data collectors/computerized software, and perform research required to complete existing condition surveys and assist with staking as necessary.Working outdoors in different weather conditions/environments performing field work, completing topographic surveys, boundary surveys and/or construction layout.Participate in the production of plans and the preparation, filling and retrieval of engineering maps, documents, and records.Responsible for reviewing existing condition surveys on-site prior to completion for thoroughness and accuracy.Why GHA?Join our dynamic team and enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your personal and professional growth. Join us and be a part of a team that values and invests in you!What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc.:EDUCATION:Must have a high school diploma or a High School Equivalency (HSE) Certificate.A bachelor’s or associate degree in an engineering technical field is preferred.EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:Two (2) years of land surveying, construction layout, geospatial, civil engineering, construction, or field related experience.The ability to obtain Survey Intern (SI) license or Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level I and II Certificate within two years of employment is preferred.The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business, maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and have a registered, insured personal vehicle.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that demonstrates curiosity about individual project processes or project subject matter and willingness to participate in various training activities.Work in collaborative environment while completing supportive surveying tasks with limited oversight.Ability to manage personal schedule to adhere to multiple assignment deadlines while communicating progress status.Proficiency with software products:Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)Average knowledge of mathematics is critical to some functions of this job.Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors and requires moderate physical demands, including constant hand, finger, and arm use, sitting, standing, or walking on uneven surfaces and/or exposure to inclement or extreme weather conditions for prolonged periods of time performing field work, completing topographic surveys, and assisting in boundary surveys and/or construction layout.Ability to be trained in the land survey concepts required to complete land survey work independently.Work may require occasional weekend, evening, or overnight trips to conduct fieldwork.Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation OpenRoads Designer is preferred.ADA SPECIFICATIONSThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job.
