Job summary

Gewalt Hamilton Associates is offering a Civil Design Internship at our Vernon Hills, IL location. You will assist the civil design and municipal/site projects, work with AutoCAD/Civil3D, and participate in field investigations and construction observation.

As an intern, you will support the Water Resources Division, perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks, and collaborate with a cross‑functional team to meet project goals while gaining hands‑on experience in a professional civil

Responsibilities

• Assist civil design and municipal/site projects including geometrics and grading.
• Perform field investigations and document findings.
• Assist with MS4-related tasks in Water Resources Division.
• Utilize AutoCAD/Civil3D for drawings and drafting.
• Visit project sites to support construction observation duties.
• Support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and storm sewer design.

Position Type: Internship

Salary Range: $18.00 - $22.00 Hourly

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Civil Design Intern to join our growing Civil Design team in Vernon Hills, IL.

How you will make an impact:

The Civil Design Intern will report to the Service Lead, Intern Coordinators, Squad Lead, and HR. The Civil Design Intern will be involved in engineering design, AutoCAD drafting, data collection, construction observation and production efforts on a variety of municipality projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. This role is a non-exempt, hourly position.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with civil design projects and municipal/site projects including geometrics, profiles/grading, detention calculations, utility coordination, observation and documentation.
• Perform and document field investigations.
• Assist the Water Resources Division with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4).
• Utilize AutoCAD/Civil3D software to assist with drawings.
• Visit project sites to assist construction observation duties.
• Assist the Water Resources Division with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and storm sewer design.
• Work in a team setting with other team members within all divisions of the company.
• Responsible for meeting assigned project goals, objectives, and ensuring on schedule accurate completion.
• Ensure that the company policies and procedures are practiced during employment.

Qualifications

Education:

Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or in a related field.

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license
• Self-starter
• Strong attention to detail
