Job summary

Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA) is seeking a Survey Intern to join our Vernon Hills team. The role focuses on supporting Professional Land Surveyors and survey technicians in field duties and project work in Vernon Hills, IL.

You will perform field investigations, gather data for land survey drawings and reports, operate survey instruments, maintain field notes, and contribute to plans and map production. This internship offers hands-on experience and growth within a trusted civil engineering

Qualifications

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in land surveying, geospatial, GIS, or civil engineering related field preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to work-related activities.
• Self-starter with a strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) and survey technicians in field duties and project work.
• Perform field investigations, gather data, and record information for land survey drawings, engineering drawings and reports.
• Operate survey instruments, conduct basic field adjustments, and maintain field notes and data collection records.
• Work outdoors in varying weather on topography, boundary surveys, and construction layout.
• Participate in production of plans and filing/retrieval of land survey maps and documents.

Salary Range: $18.00 - $22.00 Hourly

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Survey Intern to join our growing Construction and Surveying team in Vernon Hills, IL.

How you will make an impact

• Assist and support Professional Land Surveyors (PLS) and survey technicians in field duties and project work.
• Perform field investigations, gather data, and record information to be used in the production of land survey drawings, engineering drawings and reports.
• Operates survey instruments, conduct basic field adjustments, maintain neat and orderly field notes, utilizes hand-held data collectors/computerized software, and perform research required to complete surveys and staking as directed.
• Working outdoors in different weather conditions/environments performing field work for the completion of topography surveys, boundary surveys, and/or construction layout.
• Participate in the production of plans and the preparation, filing and retrieval of land survey maps, documents, and records.

Qualifications

Education

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in land surveying, geospatial, GIS, or civil engineering related field preferred.

Experience

• Valid driver’s license and transportation to work related activities.
• Self‑starter with a strong attention to detail.
• Average knowledge of mathematics is important to certain functions of this job.
