Job summary

Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA) is seeking a Transportation Intern to join our Vernon Hills, IL office. You will support transportation design work, AutoCAD drafting, data collection, and production tasks for state, county, and local agency projects under supervision.

This non-exempt, hourly internship offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to multiple divisions. You will gain proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office while pursuing a civil engineering degree.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Assist project managers and design engineers on transportation designs, studies, and reports for roadway/highway projects.
• Prepare deliverables using CAD software and Microsoft Office.
• Attend project and client meetings, including public information meetings and hearings.
• Support task tracking and reporting to meet project schedules.

Salary Range: $18.00 - $22.00 Hourly

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking a Transportation Intern to join our growing Transportation team in Vernon Hills, IL.

How you will make an impact:

The Transportation Intern will report to the Division Director, Intern Coordinators, Project Managers, and HR and will be involved in engineering design, AutoCAD drafting, data collection, and production efforts on a variety of transportation projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. This role is an non-exempt, hourly position.

Responsibilities:

• Assist project managers and design engineers on transportation designs, studies, and reports for projects including roadway/highway rehabilitation or reconstruction, intersection improvements, traffic signals, pedestrian and bike facilities. Such work may include coordination and assistance to other company divisions including Municipal, Water Resources, Data Collection, Survey, and Construction Divisions.


• Typical assignments include project data collection/scrubbing as well as project deliverable assembly utilizing CAD Software and Microsoft Office Products.


• Attend project and/or client meetings, including public information meetings and public hearings.


• Complete tasks assigned by project managers and project engineers to meet project schedules and provide proactive reporting on task status.
