Job summary

Chatham County, NC is seeking a Paralegal/Tax Listing Technician to research and maintain real property ownership and land records for property tax assessment. You will review deeds, plats, and other documents to ensure accurate parcel information and assist the public with tax records.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Tax Administrator, you will handle title searches, respond to inquiries, update systems like E911 and land records, and coordinate with GIS and Clerk of Courts.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of paralegal/real estate experience preferred.
• Knowledge of real estate laws, deed interpretations, and title searches.
• Familiarity with North Carolina Machinery Act and land records systems.
• Proficient use of computers and standard software for records management.

Responsibilities

• Researches and reviews recorded real estate documents affecting ownership.
• Examines property records to determine current and historical ownership.
• Researches chains of titles and resolves ownership discrepancies.
• Updates and maintains property ownership and parcel information in tax systems.
• Interacts with the public to provide access to tax records and explain procedures.
