Performs intermediate technical duties involving the listing of real property for taxation. This position supports the Tax Administration office by researching, reviewing, and maintaining real property ownership and land-records information. This position performs detailed research of deeds, plats, deeds of trust, easements, property transfers, and other recorded documents to ensure property ownership and parcel information are accurate for property tax assessment and administration. This position assists the public with accessing and interpreting records and other tax-related information. This position performs duties related to paraprofessional work while understanding the rules of tax listing and assessing provided by the Machinery Act of North Carolina. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Assistant Tax Administrator. The following essential functions serve as a general guide for this position. Associate degree in Paralegal Technology, Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Business, Real Estate, or a related field, or major coursework in Real Estate, or two years’ experience as a legal assistant with working knowledge of title searches, real estate law, and/or real estate closings, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in paralegal work, real estate, land records, property records, property taxation or related fields.
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, use of hands and fingers, handling, feeling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
