Job summary

McDowell County is seeking a skilled Land Records & GIS Clerk to manage public ownership records, update ownership data in the tax office system and maintain the GIS cadastral geodatabase. The role emphasizes research of deeds, surveys and related documents, plus data entry and public assistance.

You will perform GIS editing, parcel mapping, and data validation while coordinating with property owners and county staff on exemptions, restrictions and tax programs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Moderate experience in real estate, banking or paralegal research, data research analysis and entry.
• Ability to operate a computer.
• Ability to drive a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Research, interpret and analyze deeds, surveys, civil actions and special proceedings to update ownership information in tax office data system.
• Perform GIS editing, labeling maps, computing acreage, zones and boundary parcels.
• Enter, update, store and retrieve information using mapping and indexing programs to maintain land maps and records.
• Assist the public, professionals and staff with real estate, property location, tax programs and mapping questions.
• Complete data collection, reporting and compliance tasks for tax exemption/exclusion/deferment programs.
