Job summary

McClelland Consulting Engineers (MCE), an ESP Company, seeks a Project Designer to help design land development projects and related site work. The role requires knowledge of civil engineering and landscape architecture concepts and the ability to work with project teams.

Responsibilities include developing site construction documents, coordinating with teams, and ensuring compliance with codes and reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Landscape Architecture is required.
  • At least 2+ years of qualifying civil engineering design experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to site development.
  • Strong understanding of site planning and land development.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative and creativity.
  • Excellent communication, writing, technical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction documents for site development using AutoCAD Civil 3D; plans include grading, drainage, utilities, and details.
  • Coordinate with project team to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Respond to plan review comments from internal QC and city reviews.
  • Assist Project Engineer, Landscape Architects, and Project Managers with technical specs.
  • Prepare written communications, applications, and reports.
  • Review zoning codes, geotechnical reports, and state/federal codes for compliance.
  • Work with PMs and staff to identify opportunities and constraints for sites and prepare revisions for approvals.
  • Prepare for, attend, and may lead meetings with clients and internal teams.

Summary

Project Designer (PD) designs or assists in the design of construction projects dealing with Land Development projects such as, site design for new buildings, recreational facilities, trails, drainage, and other site related projects. A Project Designer must also have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the fields of civil engineering and landscape architecture.

Responsibilities
  • Develop construction documents for site development projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Construction documents sets include site plan, grading and drainage, utility, erosion control, plan sheets and applicable details
  • Coordinate with the project team to develop and complete projects on time and on budget
  • Complete plan review comments from internal quality control process and from the city review process
  • Assist the Project Engineer and Landscape Architects, and Project Managers in completing technical specifications
  • Prepare written communications, applications, and reports
  • Review and implement municipal zoning ordinances, geotechnical reports, as well as state and federal codes to ensure project compliance
  • Work in partnership with Project Managers and staff to identify opportunities and constraints for development sites, assist in municipal meetings and submittals, and complete plan revisions as needed to obtain project approval
  • Prepare for, attend and may lead meetings with internal and external clients
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Landscape Architecture
  • 2+ years of qualifying civil engineering design experience.

Travel
  • Most travel is limited to short or day trips to visit jobsites, meet clients, etc. Overnight trips are not generally required.
