Job summary

Atlantic Health is seeking a Lactation Consultant to provide evidence-based lactation care, education, and support to mothers, infants, and families across the prenatal, inpatient, and postpartum periods.

You will assess breastfeeding needs, develop care plans, educate families, assist with latch and milk expression, identify complications, document in the EMR, and coordinate referrals to community resources to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Responsibilities

• Assess maternal and infant breastfeeding needs through comprehensive lactation evaluations.
• Develop individualized lactation care plans based on patient needs and clinical findings.
• Provide breastfeeding education and counseling to expectant parents, postpartum mothers, and families.
• Assist with breastfeeding initiation, positioning, latch techniques, milk expression, and pumping strategies.
• Identify and address breastfeeding complications, including engorgement, mastitis, nipple trauma, low milk supply, and infant feeding concerns.
• Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
• Facilitate continuity of care through referrals to community breastfeeding resources and outpatient lactation services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
