Job description

Overview:

Laborer duties will include general labor tasks related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

• Perform all phases of underground construction, including loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various construction materials and equipment.
• Hand dig using shovels and mechanical tools.
• Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling.
• Climb into and out of equipment such as trucks, backhoes, trenchers, etc.
• Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Work in congested or remote areas.
• Maintain visual and audible contact with other crew members and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination.
• Perform general construction work under the direction of the Foreman/Supervisor.
• Flagging, property, or worksite restoration.
• Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to operate utility trucks and equipment safely.
• Basic knowledge of and ability to handle hand tools and equipment safely.
• Effective communication skills with customers and team members.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Ability to work at least 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, with potential overtime, after-hours, weekends, or on-call work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• At least 6 months of experience in utility construction.
• Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, crouch, sit, bend, handle or feel with hands, reach high and low, and perform various physical activities during shifts.
• Work while wearing safety boots, glasses, and a hardhat.
• Work in adverse weather conditions.
• May be exposed to dust, fumes, or airborne pathogens.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed.
