Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to prepare excavations for concrete structures. Assist carpenters in building, installing, bracing, and stripping concrete forms, as well as placing and finishing structural concrete. This hourly, non-exempt position will work with direct supervision.
Essential Functions
- Prepare excavations for concrete by placing and compacting backfill materials.
- Assist carpenters in building wooden forms.
- Set, brace, and strip wood and steel forms.
- Place and finish concrete.
- Drill holes for and position reinforcing rods.
- Ensure a safe working environment.
- Travel to various jobsite locations and arrive on time.
- Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
- Work more than 40 hours per week, including nights, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Knowledge Of
- Use, maintenance, and safe operation of hand and power tools for formwork.
- Materials used in constructing forms.
- Assembly and bracing of modular form systems such as EFCO, SYMONS, and PERRI.
- Building form components on site, including footings, columns, pier caps, deck overhangs, and parapets.
- Setting up and operating mechanized finishing equipment like GOMACO and BIDWELL.
- Methods of pouring concrete, including truck, crane & bucket, conveyor, and pump.
- Layout and placement of reinforcing rods.
Ability To
- Learn and follow company policies and procedures.
- Read grades.
- Anticipate needs and prepare accordingly.
- Work under direct supervision.
Qualifications
- Own a basic set of hand tools.
- Basic math skills.
- Valid driver’s license for your state with an acceptable driving record.
- Successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- At least 3 years of experience as a concrete laborer or similar role preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Lift 50 pounds regularly.
- Bend, sit, stoop, and stand for extended periods outdoors.
- Work with concrete dust, curing compounds, and form oils daily.
- Work in environments with dust, weather extremes, noise, vibrations, and petroleum products.
- Work on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and work safely at heights.
- Wear personal protective equipment as required.
