Job description

Job Summary:
Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to prepare excavations for concrete structures. Assist carpenters in building, installing, bracing and stripping concrete forms and placing and finishing structure concrete. This hourly, non-exempt position will work with direct supervision.

Essential Functions:

  1. Prepare excavations for concrete by placing and compacting backfill materials.
  2. Assist carpenter in building wooden forms.
  3. Set, brace, and strip wood and steel forms.
  4. Place and finish concrete.
  5. Drill holes for and position reinforcing rods.
  6. Ensure safe working environment.
  7. Travel and arrive for starting time to various jobsite locations.
  8. Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
  9. Frequently work more than 40 hours per week and non-traditional hours including night shift, Saturdays and occasionally Sundays.
  10. Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Knowledge of:
  1. Use, maintenance, and safe operation of hand and power tools to build formwork.
  2. Materials used to construct forms.
  3. Assembly and bracing of modular form systems such as EFCO, SYMONS and PERRI.
  4. Building form components on site to construct structure components including footings, columns, pier caps, deck overhang and parapets.
  5. Setting up and operating mechanized finishing equipment such as GOMACO and BIDWELL.
  6. All methods of pouring concrete including placement by truck, crane & bucket, conveyor and pump.
  7. Layout and placement of reinforcing rods.

Ability to:
  1. Learn and follow GOH Company policies and procedures.
  2. Learn to read grades.
  3. Anticipate what is needed next and have it ready.
  4. Work with direct supervision.

Qualifications:
  1. Must have own basic set of hand tools.
  2. Must have basic math skills.
  3. Prefer valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside with acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.
  4. Must successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training Course.

Education:
  1. Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
  1. Minimum of 3 years experience as a structure concrete laborer or similar experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to lift 50 pounds consistently.
  2. Ability to bend, sit, stoop, and stand for long periods of time in the outdoor weather.
  3. Ability to be exposed to concrete dust, curing compound, and form oil on a daily basis.
  4. Ability to work in field environments with exposure to dust, inclement weather conditions, extreme heat, noise, vibrations and a variety of petroleum products.
  5. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  6. Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain.
  7. Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  8. Ability to work comfortably and safely at heights on all types of structures.
  9. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
