Job summary

Morton Salt in Texas is seeking a Laborer to support production and packaging operations across the plant. You will manually handle, palletize salt, perform housekeeping, and assist more senior workers while rotating through shifts.

The job requires lifting up to 50 pounds, safe operation of equipment, and willingness to work weekend shifts in a 24/7 union environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Capable of frequent heavy lifting.
• Ability to manually handle, stack and palletize salt products.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Proficient in operating mobile equipment.
• Familiar with repair work.
• Familiar with high-speed packaging/conveying/palletizing machinery a plus.
• Must be able to work safely and wear all personal protective equipment and work various shifts and weekends as assigned.
• This is a 24/7 union environment where days, hours and shift assigned is determined by seniority.

Responsibilities

• Manually handling, stacking and palletizing salt products.
• Cleaning, sweeping, sanitizing, cleaning bins, unloading materials, and supplying fill stations.
• Filling paper bags with salt, sealing them, and palletizing finished products.
• Driving a forklift to move product within the facility.
• Assisting higher classification workers in their tasks.
• Various other general labor duties as assigned by supervision.

Under the general supervision of the Evap Mill and/or Rock Mill Supervisor(s), the Laborer performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to department housekeeping, observing and working in various workstations and training on assigned machinery.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Manually handling, stacking and palletizing salt products
• Tasks such as cleaning, sweeping, sanitizing, cleaning bins, unloading package material, supplying fill stations with packing materials, labels, or boxes, making trash bales, etc.
• Filling paper bags with salt, guiding them through a sewing head to seal them, and palletizing the finished products
• Driving a forklift to move product in the facility
• Assisting workers of higher classification in performing their tasks
• Various other general labor duties as assigned by supervision

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

Physical Requirements

• Normal working schedule - flexible hours, weekend and overtime will likely be required
• Works in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time
• May perform sustained manual activities at moderate levels of exertion including lifting and moving loads of up to fifty (50) pounds, climbing ladders / stairs and working on elevated platforms
• Works and travels throughout surface plant environment of varied temperatures and humidity
• Must be capable of wearing all required PPE and must be physically able to access all plant work areas
• Uses full range of motion
• Works in manufacturing plant environment
