A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I for the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. The role involves processing and testing diagnostic samples, ensuring exemplary patient care, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. The town of Banff is located approximately 115 km west of Calgary nestled among Alberta’s Rocky Mountain Range in Canada’s first National Park. Banff is an international travel destination with visitors from around the globe coming to experience the splendor of the Park and its wildlife. The town site combines history with exclusive shopping and renowned dining. The Banff Mineral Springs hospital provides the Bow Valley with a variety of services including Acute Care, Emergency, and Surgery as well as hospital outpatient services and public health. The laboratory plays a key role in the interdisciplinary team within the hospital and community.As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working day and evening shifts, Night Shifts and On-Call. Sleeping accommodations on site may be available for on call shifts. Reporting directly to the on-site senior technologist and the Regional Rural Supervisor, the MLT will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. In accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) and other privacy legislation in effect the incumbent shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s Information Privacy and Information Security policies.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment.Strong Phlebotomy skills required.Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast pace changing environment.Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment in accordance with standard operating procedures.Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills showing attention to detail and accuracy.Demonstrated ability to organize, set priorities and multitask.Demonstrate a customer service attitude and delivery of excellent customer service by effectively meeting customer (internal and external) client needs by means of building productive and respectful customer relations and taking responsibility for customer satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 1 year Experience within Calgary Rural Zone laboratory.Minimum 1 Year Experience in Chemistry and Hematology.Minimum 1 Year Experience with Receiving, sending and Dispensing Blood Products.Proven ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills.Ability to facilitate change positively by encouraging others and accepting change within the workplace.Demonstrated personal leadership, regardless of role, by building positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships.
