A leading company is seeking a Technical Laboratory Assistant to provide high-quality services in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Responsibilities include specimen processing, quality control, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational and communication skills, and have completed an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
As part of the FMC Chemistry team and reporting to Site Leadership, this Technical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) position is responsible for customer-focused services and direct front-line support of the department. This position’s duties will include, but are not limited to: processing, reporting, resulting specimens for urinalysis/β-HCG/serum ketones, appropriately prioritizes processing and testing of specimens, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment. Performs quality control and quality assurance activities, calibrates instruments and maintains records as appropriate to their scope of work. Venipuncture on adult/pediatric/neonatal patients as required. Performs administrative duties such as filing, faxing, report distribution and archiving when required. The MLA will handle, store and dispose of biological or other hazardous materials according to existing guidelines, identify process improvement opportunities, participate in training/orientation of new staff/students. Monitors department supply inventory and acts appropriately to maintain stock and any additional duties as required. The MLA will prioritize tasks and duties based on workload, be able to recognize and assess unusual or abnormal findings and react appropriately, maintain a safe and clean workspace, use PPE appropriately according to established procedures, escalate and document problems and/or non-conforming events as required, and respond to inquiries from clinical and lab staff as appropriate. This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of team, exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, adaptable communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience within the last year working in a chemistry and/or urinalysis department is an asset. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Epic. Personal Leadership and Change Management courses/certificates.
